About Avaz
Avaz means “voice” in Hindi.
We build communication tools that help children and adults with speech and language disabilities communicate with confidence, at home, at school, in clinics and in everyday life.
Where Avaz began
Why was AAC still out of reach for so many families?
Between 2005 and 2009, a small group of innovators from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras set out to answer that question. They worked side by side with special educators, therapists and children with communication disabilities, and tried approach after approach.
In 2007, these IIT Madras alumni incorporated Invention Labs, incubated at IIT Madras, and built Avaz into India’s first AAC device. It was quickly adopted in autism and cerebral palsy intervention settings.
With the rise of tablets, Avaz became an app for Android and iPad, taking communication support across India and around the world.

What families taught us
Communication success depends on far more than software. Families often face overwhelming set-up, a lack of AAC guidance, inconsistent support, and difficulty building communication habits into everyday life, especially in multilingual settings.
So we build more than an app
Multilingual communication support, caregiver onboarding and guidance, communication partner support and AI-assisted accessibility tools. Our focus isn’t the most complicated feature set; it’s helping more people communicate consistently, confidently and meaningfully.
